Filing
The return goes in. March for a calendar-year S corporation or partnership. April for an individual or a calendar-year C corporation.
Looking for the filing deadline after a spring form, and discovering the balance had kept its own date. The picture is a composite, not a client.
Imagine an owner who filed Form 4868 and spent the summer believing the balance could wait until the extended filing day. In the picture the return waited. The balance had stayed on the spring date. The surprise in October is that the two acts had never been the same act.
No name is used. No trade, city, and dollar are combined. No penalty percent is printed, because this picture is the gap, not a bill. The papers are made up so you can see the shape.
Filing
The return goes in. March for a calendar-year S corporation or partnership. April for an individual or a calendar-year C corporation.
Paying
The balance is a second act. It can share the filing day, or it can stay on the original day when the return moves.
Sources. IRS Publication 509 for calendar-year filers, read 3 October 2026. An individual and a calendar-year C corporation file on the 15th day of the fourth month. A partnership and an S corporation file on the 15th day of the third month. When that day is a Saturday, a Sunday, or a legal holiday, the next business day is used. A named year's weekday is kept on the year list, not in this gap.
No one here holds a CPA license. This desk does not sign an audit, a review, or a compilation, and it does not pitch a settlement of a penalty.
Payroll deposits are not the filing day of an income tax return. The full statement of that limit is on the disclosures page.
If the picture is close, the document to send is the extension confirmation and the year on it. A Tax CFO would rather mark the payment day in the spring than discover the split in the fall. The warning is the gap itself, without a scare headline.
I was looking at an extension and I want to know whether the balance kept its own day.
You will be talking to the Steven Palmieri practice.
